Who We Are

The harbingers of good work, do not ask for an acknowledgement. They serve their cause, dedicate it to the society and gracefully bid adieu to the world. It is for the latter to pick up from there and add on the initiatives. It is also left to the society to acknowledge good deeds and celebrate such icons whose works constitute landmarks for replication. Not doing that is actually not being fair to humanity. Just a few stray mentions here and there actually do not suffice. A proper enunciation of the contributions of a person duly communicated to the world only, typically, does justice to both: the achiever, as well as the society and the posterity. Hitherto, however, there has been a void in this domain and there has been a dire need to fill the bill which we have been trying to do in a domain which appears lacking in zeal. If one gets down to listing the luminaries aglow in the hallowed sky, the list turns out to be rather endless. Nevertheless, an earnest effort is made to take cognizance of the great people in all spheres of life – be it the social arena, education, healthcare, industry, science & technology, media, art & culture or any other arena of social relevance.

It is our endeavor to bring to the notice of the world how our achievers, young and old, have added to the halo of 'mankind'. In reading about them, perhaps, many more would emulate and score even higher and further. This is a forum to remind the world of some of the greatest legends who have worked hard to transform the planet of the past to a world of the present and forever striving to improve it at making it a better place to live in. We consider it our duty and an honor to bring sung and unsung heroes of today to the forefront where their efforts could gain cognizance. Our salutes to the legends, of the past and present, for beating down a path for the future to follow. These, in fact, are the true leaders for it is they who are working against all odds to catapult global fortunes, selflessly. They are the ones who truly are catapulting our world to the path of success and prosperity in more fields than one. They are an inspiration, the torch bearers, who are paving the route to “Vasudhaivam Kutumbakam” (universal brotherhood). The author of the publications, Shyam Goenka, had found vindication in his endeavor way back in 1993, to establish a “Free Press” in Nepal christened “Kantipur” (the vernacular Daily) and “The Kathmandu Post” (English Daily) that had had a dictatorial and oppressive regime in the form of a monarchy, disallowing empowerment of the people.

This was a nation that had remained one of the poorest, marred by massive corruption, and was placed very low on quotients of Human Rights, Civil Liberties, Democratic Practices, Freedom of Expression/ Speech, Rule of law, Good Governance, Social Justice, et al.

The vernacular version “Kantipur” launched in 1993, became the largest circulated Daily in the country in a short spell of time. For the global statisticians who seem to have turned a blind eye to this fact, it has, by far, the largest national readership share across all newspapers in the world and is a primary reason for Nepal’s huge advance in the “Press Freedom Index” where it is ranked much higher than nations like Singapore, Malaysia, India, China, Russia and almost the entire Middle East, each of which is much ahead of Nepal on the economic and other indexes. Not just about readership, “Kantipur” has been synonyms with some of the most legendary developments in the history of Nepal and can be said to be one of the greatest contributors in the “New Nepal” evolution. Shyam along with Executive Editor, Ravi Goenka and the team, is passionate about catapulting lives of the marginalized. He is working on a road-map that may open vistas of socio-economic transformation for more than a billion underprivileged who barely have an organized source of livelihood.
